He may be getting better these days on a Final Crisis spinoff, but his art back then was terrible.JDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09639296536339134165noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734283773701136760.post-14533395699809219092008-08-23T00:58:00.000-04:002008-08-23T00:58:00.000-04:00We saw Mystique a few times in-between, Scott. They 'retconned' her into not being insane, just pretending to be so she could access Forge's files.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734283773701136760.post-62342199794873189812008-08-22T11:23:00.000-04:002008-08-22T11:23:00.000-04:00Man this issue made me so mad and it's around anot...Man this issue made me so mad and it's around another 6-12 issues I dropped it, I've since picked up the end but have never read it.

Guido's story was huge thing to me and having him look like he was dead and then no mention of it sucked.

The last time we saw Mystique she was going crazy at Forge's place and now she's on the team. Mackie is terrible, but Austen will always be the worst.I haven't read these X-Factor issues in awhile, and I tend to remember them being bad, but not having the ridiculous plot contrivances (exploding communion wafers, for one) that Austen used every month. And the characters acted halfway human, and didn't just transform into whatever Austen wanted them to be (slutty, in love with a teenage girl, homophobic, psychotic) within the span of two pages.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734283773701136760.post-86899382705524578212008-08-21T08:55:00.000-04:002008-08-21T08:55:00.000-04:00The X-franchise as a whole fell off the rails post...The X-franchise as a whole fell off the rails post AOA, but this title fell off the worst. The pre-AOA issues weren't that bad, in hindsight, though not as good as the PAD glory days. Sadly, the worst (the Mackie issues) is yet to come...:SAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734283773701136760.post-88061611246146886402008-08-20T11:29:00.000-04:002008-08-20T11:29:00.000-04:00Oy, I remember being very angry that the Guido cli...Oy, I remember being very angry that the Guido cliffhanger got zero resolution.

Also, I consider myself fairly well-versed in meaningless X-Men trivia, but until I read this entry, I had no idea that the Scarlett that knocked boots w/Havok in the AoA was an alteration of an existing character.

When she was introduced in this issue, I figured she was being created in the "regular" universe after debuting in the AoA(similar to what happens w/Bedlam in X-Force later). I had no idea she was a pre-existing (albeit minor) character until now.

Also, fully agreed, this run is painful to behold.Austin Gortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14281239771248780430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734283773701136760.post-949565570077255912008-08-20T03:36:00.000-04:002008-08-20T03:36:00.000-04:00Mackie/Matsuda might be the single worst creative ...Mackie/Matsuda might be the single worst creative team in X-book history. Check that, Mackie/Matsuda might be the single worst creative team on ANY mainstream book.

Seriously, wrack your brains on this one. Chuck Austen might match Mackie when it comes to utterly incomprehensible writing, but was he ever matched up with an artist as awful as Matsuda? I've read stories that have chaotic changes with little transition where it can work, but this one is awful. And it is because the changes are so arbitrary - especially Wildchild. And it's a crime that Wolfsbane and Guido are basically ignored. And as to Matsuda - it gets even worse. I have to wonder how this title managed to last almost 40 more issues.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
