I thought Hobgoblin Lives was one of the bright spots in a period of not-too-great stories for Spidey.Jeffnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734283773701136760.post-84169298283316462032010-06-15T23:05:15.947-04:002010-06-15T23:05:15.947-04:00Hmmm...I approved Matt's comment but Blogger s...Hmmm...I approved Matt's comment but Blogger still shows this post has zero comments.G. But when I started reading back issues, I found Leeds to be a pretty stand-up guy, and was disappointed they'd turned him bad.

When I later read the "Origin of the Hobgoblin" trade paperback, reprinting all the Hobby stories from ASM 238-250, even I felt that something was off about the Leeds revelation, given that the Hobgoblin in those stories was presented as a high-society type -- he was a member of the Century Club, where Jonah Jameson and Norman Osborn used to hang out in the old days, and he even had a huge estate somewhere in upstate New York! Hardly things that applied to Leeds.

I was thrilled when Roger Stern finally returned for Hobgoblin Lives. For some reason a lot of fans seem not to like it, but it's easily one of my favorite Spider-Man stories of all time, and all the old Hobby stories from both Stern and DeFalco reach much better to me if Roderick Kingsley, rather than Ned Leeds, is under the mask!Mattnoreply@blogger.com
