G. I. JOE YEARBOOK #1 (March 1985)

Michael Golden cover for another Marvel JOE cash-in. #GIJoe #LarryHama #MichaelGolden
Golden’s work in the Yearbooks will be legendary in some circles, but he’s only doing a cover and pin-up here. #MichaelGolden #GIJoe

Most of the comic is a reprint of JOE #1. Marvel reprinted that one at least three times in the ‘80s, back when hardly anything was reprinted. Repro quality of #1 isn’t the best. I think IDW’s collection of the Yearbooks uses the original repro pages, making a copy of a copy. A recap section becomes standard. Pre-digital typography, I’m guessing.
Some original art here, though. I believe this is Frank Springer, drawing portraits. Text is from Hama’s personal notes, also used for the Hasbro dossiers.
An article on the upcoming daily JOE cartoon. Yearbooks would be the only acknowledgement of the show. Hama remained indifferent.
Most of the article is a detailed analysis of the first comic book commercial. What kind of lunatic would do such a thing?
