G. I. JOE YEARBOOK #3 (March 1987)

One of my first comics. Purchased when in withdrawals, after the show’s cancellation.
This is one of the many follow-ups to “Silent Interlude.” Perhaps the first. Also an early Ron Wagner job.

I believe this resolves a subplot from the main book, with Snake Eyes kidnapped by Cobra.
Scarlett recruits Storm Shadow to mount a rescue. Coming in from the cartoon, this all seemed crazy. (Hama was Wagner's model for Storm Shadow, BTW)
Snake Eyes thinking so hard he blows up Mindbender’s machine has always stayed with me.
That Cobra statue also stands out. Incredible pencils from Wagner.
A backup story features Mike Zeck’s first interior JOE work. Something Devil’s Due forgot when promoting a later comic.
It’s a Serpentor solo tale, providing us with the origin of…pizza. Too soon for any Turtles jokes.
And the great Mike Zeck was kind enough to provide some info about this back-up on Twitter:

"Larry Hama was up against a Yearbook deadline with 5 unfilled pages. He called and asked if I could turn this script around overnight. Fortunately, Dennis Janke was in my studio at that moment. We stayed up all night and turned in penciled/inked pages the next day."

Now, gratuitous plug time -- all of my Kindle Worlds JOE novels (set in the original Sunbow cartoon continuity) can be downloaded for free over at Smashwords!
