I think the 80s were the greatest decade for almost every MU character. Claremont's X-men, Byrne's X-men and FF, Stern Avengers, Simonson Thor, Miller Daredevil, the best part of David's Hulk. On top of how great Amazing Spiderman was from 200-300.
It even goes beyond Spider-Man, but yes I am a big fan of the character:-D.
Yeah to boil it down simply, while there is room for critique and some restoration of the status quo like Jean Grey's return in X-Factor and that Phoenix/Jean wasn't her, it was the last time Marvel tried for long term change VS illusion of change.
