Spider-Man: The Animated Series - How Stan Lee Adapted Stan Lee


This week at CBR, I'm revisiting Stan Lee's revisit of Dr. Octopus' origin, for Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

This was kind of a weird thing the mid-nineties Marvel toons tended to do, where the premise was in media res, but a lot of the foes (and allies) they encountered for the first time in real time. I guess it kind of makes sense if you believe Spider-Man has just been

The one thing I found weird was when he monologues about other superheroes ("You wouldn't see the Avengers down here. Or the Fantastic Four. Or the Defenders. Maybe the Hulk.") Considering he's introduced to Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Captain America over the course of the show, I wonder what the memberships of those teams are comprised of.
