https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn7fQKm3O3w Another entry in the Terrible ‘90s Marvel Video Game folder. A Spider-Man/X-Men team-up game should’ve been the fulfillment of any kid’s dream during this era, but instead we got this pile of mediocrity. I can’t say they were all terrible, the X-Men had their Sega Genesis game, and Spider-Man’s Maximum Carnage was well-received, but too often a Marvel video game in the ‘90s meant wasted allowance money.

Say what you will about this game it has a kick-ass soundtrack. I bought this back in the day as I was a huge Gambit fan, and im pretty sure this is his first video game appearance.
The game isnt super good yet, its not super bad either. What I did hate about this game was Cyclops uniform, I hate skullcap Cyclops. Why did they not use Jim Lee's costume I will never know.
I agree with Mr. Anonymous on the OST for X-Men Spidey in Arcade's Revenge. I do disagree however, on your statement that ALL mutant video games of the 16-bit generation sucked. The first X-Men on the Genesis is gritty as hell and fits the atmosphere of the comics quite well for its time. Graphics are Okay, I'll give you that, but music, action, mutant's powers, characters and challenge were spot on.
I ad this one growing up and while it wasn't a masterpiece it was decent enough. What hurt it was the lack of passwords which meant I've probably played that opening level a million times and could still probably do it by muscle memory.
I never managed to beat this game due to not realizing the only way to defeat Rhino is to web-swing into him (thx Youtube).
The Spiderman levels were high art compared to the X-men ones. And WHY did they have to handicap Wolverine so that his healing factor didn't work with his claws out? That's a conceit I feel like more than one game used, and while I appreciate wanting to not risk breaking a game, his level is a speed run with an instant kill from Juggernaut! Hardly the time and place for additional handicaps, yo.

Still better than X-Men on NES tho.
